Many people believe that self-love is selfish, that they should always love the other more because otherwise they are only concerned with themselves. Yes, I'm talking about you! The mother who loves her children more than herself, the daughter who is more concerned about her father than her own health, the friend who has sleepless nights because she wants to help her friend so much that she forgets herself.


Loving yourself gives you confidence, self-esteem generally helps you feel more positive and energized. If you learn to love yourself, you will be much happier and you will learn how to best take care of yourself.


When you really love yourself, you will stop comparing yourself to others, feel confident, feel good about yourself, and worry less about what others think.

1. Learn to be alone



Take some time to be alone with yourself.


When you feel comfortable in the presence of yourself and can enjoy yourself without the presence of others, you learn to turn inward and discover yourself on deeper levels.



2. Remove the word 'wrong' from your dictionary

Errors do not exist! Choices and decisions that we once made and which later did not deliver the desired result do not mean mistakes.


They were lessons we had to learn and if we think about it carefully, they took us on a different path to eventually reach our goals.


Thinking about your "mistakes" can cost you a lot of energy and lower your self-esteem.


If you look back on your "mistakes" and forgive yourself for choices you have made, you can leave them in the past and they no longer control your life.


If you have learned the lessons from these "mistakes" and acknowledge this for yourself, you will find that it increases your self-esteem. You are a wise person who is able to make different choices.

3. Recognize your successes




Listing your accomplishments and all you've accomplished is a great way to practice self-love.


This will show you the long road you have already gone through and you will find that remembering what you have already achieved makes you truly happy.

4. Dare to be vulnerable

Opening yourself up to love and real connection is difficult.


We spend years, even decades, building walls around us to protect ourselves from pain.


By daring to be vulnerable you are much more open to receiving support and love, so that you are also more able to look at yourself more lovingly.

5. Seek support



Just because you're struggling with something doesn't mean you have to struggle alone.


Ask friends and family to help you or seek professional help.


This could be a psychologist or what Gabrielle Bernstein calls a "spiritual running buddy."


6. Discover your spirituality

Faith is the foundation of self-love, no matter what you believe.


Believing in something opens your soul to the beauty of trust. It builds your intuition and helps you make decisions based on your own feelings.


When you explore your spirituality, it will also take you on a journey to learn things about yourself, such as new thoughts, feelings, passions, and raw emotions.


These will help you appreciate yourself even more and accept and love your authentic self.

Visualizing your feelings is a great way to increase your self-love.


You can write mantras, encouraging phrases and other texts on your self-love board.
